preparation for the presidential debate, president obama and mitt romney are going to see the first one right here on wednesday. that debate is coming. and you're going to see where they are in the process of preparing in just a moment. the debates and the election, of course, are serious. and that would be our first story. serious. until we discovered this video, stunning video shot from the helmet of a u.s. soldier, it seems like a video game. but this is not xbox which you're about to see. it is real. the pentagon is telling us it happened, it happened in afghanistan in april. afghanistan is a place we have not heard these candidates talk about much, have we? nothing from romney during the republican convention, very little from obama, especially at the u.n. this last week. the debates will likely be a different story because this weekend the death toll for americans in the war surpassed the 2000 mark. the soldier who made the helmet cam video suffered only minor wounds and has returned to duty. but it's amazing that he suffered only minor wounds when you see this incredible story. his fig

here from 2007, from the speech by then senator and presidential candidate barack obama. the daily collar dug up a full video of the speech, posting it online, calling it an exclusive, calling it obama's other race speech. joe johns, let me go to you there in washington. joe, to be crystal clear, there is absolutely nothing new about this speech, it is five years old. so my question to you, is -- why is this popping up now? why is this being trumpeted by so many conservative media outlets, of course, the timing on the eve of the first presidential debate? >> well, brooke, they say the entire tape of the entire speech has not been widely circulated. so that's why they put the exclusive label on it. timing is everything. it is a political year. could be a way to fire up conservatives at crunch time, also, as simple as maybe the daily caller somehow discovered this tape, but they had something exclusive, ran with it. either way, it is safe to say it is old news. the reason it gets attention from conservatives is there is a school of thought out there that says the president has deeply

, in the last presidential campaign, debates were not president obama's strengths. in fact, he's a much better speechmaker than he is a debater. and don't forget, he hasn't debated an awful lot lately. when the president of the united states and you're in the oval office, people tend not to debate with you an awful lot. you live in the presidential bubble. he hasn't been on stage with other people challenging him. so in a way, he sort of has got to get used to this routine over and over again, where as mitt romney has been on a debate stage an awful lot of times. >> if i recall, you were in a lot of those debates, he's tough, he's no wallflower that mitt romney. what is his biggest challenge, though? going into wednesday? >> the biggest challenge, i think mitt romney has got to do a couple of things. they're at odds with each other. first thing goehe's got to do i take on president obama directly when it comes to policy. what he has to tell the voters is i've got a better plan for an economic recovery than the president. he has to challenge him directly. but, brooke, he has to do it in a way,

going on the offensive? i moderated four obama debates in the last cycle four years ago including one-on-one debate at the kodak theater with hillary clinton and barack obama, one of their last debates before he won the democratic presidential nomination. you know, he wasn't a fabulous debater but he was solid and when he had to he went after her and went after john edwards and the other democratic candidates but over the past four years he has been president and clearly not involved in these kind of debates and his advisers should have been better prepared and they have have worked with him a the although more to get ready and they have have studied. mitt romney was a very good debater and i did three debates this time where he really undermined rick perry or rick santorum or newt gingrich. he knew how to do it and it was underlined last well. >> the voters better hope they are not going to the polls today and -- or doing the early voting. >> still two mow presidential debates -- more presidential debates and vice presidential debates. there is a flip side of saying the president wil

for the presidential election were cast before election day. so you have this really interesting thing of you have, you know, barack obama and then john mccain coming, barn storming through the state where a lot of votes were already cast. we're expecting a similar picture in 2012. obviously florida is the biggest link state in america, 29 electoral votes, already republicans and democrats are organizing lawyers in every one of florida's 67 counties, get ready to challenge ballots. hearing stories of potential voter registration fraud. so it's florida, it's every year, every election there's lots of questions, and this is another year. i'm sorry you're going to have to deal with us, put up with us through november 6th. >> florida, florida, florida. henry, critics of early voting say people are already voting, the presidential debates haven't even happened yet. and something could well happen in the presidential debates to change people's minds. and that's maybe why we shouldn't have early voting because there's just not enough time. >> well, sure. you hear that argument. and there are a lot of voters w
